Following the success of the Eccellenza Touch coffee machine, VKI commissioned us to design another brewing system for use in commercial and public spaces – one that would deliver an enjoyable user experience, together with superior dispenser capacity and an optimized operating process for high frequency use.

The design mandate for the Eccellenza Momentum was simple:

Build on the Eccellenza Touch as an achievement to deliver an upgraded machine able to satisfy the increased demands of this market segment.

• High-end visual signature

• Improved dispenser capacity

• Better performance in production

• Enhanced user experience

Before we started designing a look for the new system, we developed multiple mock-ups. This step allowed us to experiment visually with several possible product architectures for the layout of the machine’s various internal and external components.

The configuration chosen allows both maximized coffee storage capacity and simplified maintenance. It also provides a comfortable, intuitive experience for the end user. All in a perfectly optimized format.

To ensure visual consistency in the product line, it was essential to keep the DNA developed for the Eccelenza Touch. Which is why the two machines share an unmistakable family resemblance.

The satin silver body of the machine – a kind of finish usually reserved for premium personal-use coffee makers – evokes quality and sophistication. Its convex surfaces, on the other hand, accentuate reflected light, reducing the apparent size of this fairly massive object.

The large 18.5 inch touchscreen is covered with a thin layer of retro painted “Gorilla Glass” that provides robust protection and a pleasing feeling of depth. It’s also bordered by a ring of chrome for an impeccable finish.

With its frosted finish, the light diffuser presents a soft and inviting gleam that attracts the user’s attention and highlights the delicious beverage.

For the sake of continuity and consistency, the graphic elements developed for the Eccellenza Touch interface have been preserved.

However, these gain an entirely new dimension as a result of the 85% larger screen. With this larger interactive space, we were able to develop an enhanced and satisfying experience.

The result speaks for itself – a simple, intuitive, enjoyable and – most importantly – more rapid order cycle.

To help the Eccellenza Momentum withstand daily commercial use, we paid particular attention to its robustness, durability, and waterproof quality, without compromising its distinctive, meticulous appearance.

We took advantage of the waiting time during brewing to improve the user experience by using the screen. Running a video that simulates the coffee brewing process in real time invigorates the user’s senses and also provides information with a countdown on the waiting time.
