By using an anodized aluminum fascia and various urethane densities, we succeeded in overcoming a daunting challenge: conforming to strict dust and water resistance standards (IP-67), while effectively dissipating heat from the lasers.
Laser Wind Sensor
Catch the Wind
We defined how a technology which serves to measure wind speeds up to a distance of 1 km can be integrated into a device used in sailboat racing.
A second phase of development allowed the interpretation of data in digital format, on pocket PC and mobile phone.
This technology was utilized by the BMW-Oracle team during the Valencia America’s Cup race in 2010, which the team won. It also serves to optimize the output of wind turbines and assists firefighters in fighting forest fires.
