Prosharp Bauer AdvantEdge, the home skate sharpener designed in collaboration with Bauer, has won a prestigious Red Dot Award for design excellence.

As part of the modernization of the ProSharp brand, Alto Design was commissioned to rethink the design and user experience of a new home skate sharpener. The objective: to offer players a simple, portable and accessible tool for sharpening their skates wherever they are – at home, at the arena or on the move.

The Prosharp Bauer AdvantEdge redefines at-home skate sharpening for hockey players of all levels by merging advanced automation with thoughtful design.

The process of sharpening skates — often seen as complex and intimidating — was reimagined to be approachable and intuitive. This portable sharpener offers consistent, professional-level precision with automated clamping, height adjustment, and programmable sharpening profiles. The interactive touch screen is complemented by app connectivity, offering personalized profiles, how-to videos, and troubleshooting resources.

Its sleek aluminum form, chamfered lines, and suspended design evoke the sharpness and balance of a skate blade, while its intuitive touch screen, smart control program, and status-indicating lighting ensure a seamless user experience.

Engineered for portability and robustness, the machine allows users to sharpen skates anywhere — from rinks to garages. By simplifying maintenance and reducing sharpening costs, it empowers athletes to perform their best on the ice.

Congratulations to the Bauer team on this award!
